This commentary is perfect and draws attention to Hoekstra’s campaign website, which is even more offensive than the ad. (My only quibble is the bit about traditional vs. simplified characters - I don’t know why Osnos would say that these characters “are visible” only in Hong Kong and Taiwan; they are certainly “visible” on the mainland as well as in many overseas Chinese communities elsewhere, like the U.S.
